How does it work?

Students work on colorful word problems about endangered species. Each problem includes customized hints to help students find the solution. Interactive examples and video lessons reinforce classroom lessons. Fast-paced SkillBuilders help students build fluency with basic math facts and math vocabulary.
Word problems and SkillBuilders are organized into Learning Objectives. With a few clicks, you can assign a Learning Objective to the whole class. Or, you can assign different Learning Objectives to different students to support differentiated instruction. AnimalWatch materials are aligned to the California Content Standards for Mathematics.

How can I tell how my students are doing in AnimalWatch?

AnimalWatch shows you real-time reports of students' progress. Flash Reports show overall progress at a glance. Detailed Reports let you drill more deeply into students' performance. AnimalWatch uses artificial intelligence algorithms to detect when student is guessing or trying to "game" the software, and flags this behavior for you. You can download the reports or print them out to look at later, add to a student's file, or use in conferences with parents.

What about English Learners?

Learning math while mastering English is challenging, and many students need extra help. SkillBuilders help English Learners master important math vocabulary terms. Students can click on unfamiliar vocabulary in the AnimalWatch word problems to see a definition. You can also request separate reports for your English Learners and English Primary students. Studies in Los Angeles schools found that English Learners show significant improvement after working with AnimalWatch.
